The Frame Guesthouse is our latest addition to our guesthouse portfolio since our establishment in 2008.
Situated within charming 3-storey heritage shophouses, formerly housing a frame maker shop, our restoration choices are deeply rooted in authenticity, functionality, and an appreciation for materials that age gracefully.
We prioritized preserving the essential elements of the guesthouse, leaving the existing concrete floors, walls, and surfaces with minimal alterations. Much of the space retains its original character, featuring rough, weathered walls, and even exposed traces of removed electrical appliances.
Moreover, we take pride in our spacious common areas, a unique benefit of our establishment. Our café provides an exceptional opportunity for guests to connect with locals and fellow travelers in Penang.

hostel was in a good area - the only positive. We had a private room and en-suite. The bathroom was hotter than the sun and tiny. It was impossible to sit on the toilet due to how close it was to the wall and showering would soak the toilet. We checked out early because the walls are as thin as paper and I was sick of being woken up by aggressive spitting at all hours of the night. Oh and the prayer call. No atmosphere and the staff are never there, a sign is just left due to ‘short staff’.

As an architect, the place is beautifully done, but functionally it sucks if you’re looking for a social hostel or even a place to sit down comfortably for a few minutes. As you walk in, the minimalist style comes to play, and the harsh unfunctional furniture shows the true side of this hostel. You can function while also having aesthetics and I so wish this hostel did that. Every place to sit was uncomfortable, and there’s no space in the bathrooms at all either, or at the counters. Beds comfy.

Minimalistic hostel which is good for what it is, but don’t expect many amenities or many comfortable communal areas (e.g. The ‘TV area’ has wooden blocks for seats). Upstairs shared areas very hot and with a lot of biting flies as it’s open to the outside but the hostel is in a great location and quiet as long as you’re not in a street view room.
