Castelo dos Tucanos is a beautiful building and the location is great for somewhere a bit more relaxed- beautiful views. Atmosphere was brilliant and the breakfasts were great. Facilities very good overall, great WiFi and ok showers. The two things that brought my rating down was the amount of dog poo around, and the fact that we couldn't go outside late and were kind of locked in. I get the need to consider neighbours, but we're all adults it's not a party hostel so it felt a bit condescending.

The hostel is in a cool old building, with great views and large spacious rooms. It is in a cool leafy neighbourhood in rio with bars and restaurants that is walkable to the centre, but far from beaches. However, because it is up on the hill it is difficult to get ubers to the hostel. Sometimes we waited up to 30 mins for an uber with no one wanting to take our ride. Also, paying cash was a faff because there aren't many ATMs in Rio and none in Santa Teresa.

The hostel is in a prime location, housed in a unique building with great views, and the dorm beds have curtains for privacy. However, it feels overpriced for what you get. The crowd is predominantly French and cleanliness is lacking, not just in the facilities but overall (e.g old printers covered in leaves on the hallways). Payment is cash-only, and I had to remove my own bedsheets, which felt odd for the price. Lastly the included breakfast starts way too late (as of 08:30, couldnâ€™t try)
