The hotel Ateneo is situated in the historic centre of Madrid, 20 meters away from the Puerta del Sol, on a historic building constructed before 1774, and after reformed by the great architect Ventura Rodriguez.
Its location makes it an ideal starting point for short walks to many of Madrid's most interesting sites: Triangle of Art (Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Museum) The Royal Palace, The Plaza Mayor, churches, monuments, shopping, restaurants, theatres, and many different club and discos.
Each 38 rooms have bathroom with telephone and hair-drier, telephone with ADSL line mini bar security box air conditioning.
We also have a fax service and can arrange for excursions to other cities around Madrid.

I reserved a room for three people and when i arrived they said it was just for two, i had to find a hostel at a much higher price just for one person.

After reading negative reviews about this hotel I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Great location for all shops, cafes, bars etc and the room was clean with a well equipped bathroom. For a weekend city break it was ideal. We didn't have breakfast so cannot comment but overall everything was good.

This is an "old school" Madrid hotel. Fantastic location, one block from Gran VÃa and three from Plaza del Sol, a few steps from three metro lines and a train station. Surrounded by stores, restaurants, and cinemas, the hotel is surprisingly quiet and cozy. The staff is friendly and the services and facilities more than fine. The hotel is clean though a bit old-looking, but not in a bad way. A bit pricey, though not for a three star hotel.
