Welcome to Latacunga Hostel. Inside to Villa de Tacvnga, the only hotel in the world built on pumice Cotopaxi volcano.

Located in the historic center of the city of Latacunga, those staying in this house become part of a story that began in 1742 when the written Cotopaxi volcano became active and then that pumice was used to lift these walls knew accommodate illustrious figures in the history of Ecuador.

This place was great! My only complaint was that the sign on the entrance reads “Villa de Tacunga,” rather than Hostel Latacunga. This was confusing and I stood in the street confused for 30 minutes before coming in. The hotel was extremely affordable, the staff friendly, the rooms spotless, the showers had hot water…what more do you want for $17?

It's a nice hostel, with English speaking and helpful staff. The electric heating also works. Showers were hot. Room and bathroom were clean. But there are no spaces to hang out comfortably and the wall in my room had a huge moldy patch. I only stayed for one night, so I didn't complain, but I wouldn't stay longer in that room.
