The tourist town 'El Chalten' founded in 1985, is located in the department Lago Argentino, in the southwest of Santa Cruz province. Is the youngest town in the country.
'El Chalten' is the name given to the mountain by the Tehuelches, the native inhabitants of the region.
This mountain was later named 'Cerro Fitz Roy', by explorer Francisco Pascacio Moreno.
In the Aonikenk language it means 'Smokey mountain'.

Absolutely amazing stay. Alejandra is simply amazing. She is incredibly kind and accommodating, even offering to prepare us our breakfast the night before our early hike. The room was safe, quiet, clean, and offered a beautiful view of Fitz Roy. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Alejandra was so kind and welcoming. She went out of her way to make us feel at home. She gave tips and recommendations for the forever changing Patagonian weather. The hostel is clean with spacious rooms, and we had a delicious breakfast! And the showers were hot with good water pressure. And great wifi for El Chalten. Would love to stay again!

Alejandra was the nicest and most accommodating host we’ve had this trip. For days we wanted to hike before the typical breakfast time, she went out of her way to prepare breakfast the night before. The rooms were cleaned daily which was a very pleasant surprise! She also gave us a great restaurant recommendation for La Tapera. We would definitely stay here again on a future trip to El Chalten. Gracias para todo Alejandra!
